The ability to communicate is one of the most fundamental interactions that we have as humans, as is the ability to use our executive functions to be an active participant in our lives and the lives of others. These can be profoundly diminished after a stroke, traumatic brain injury or degenerative disease.
My inspiration comes from the moments. The moments when a patient produces a sound, a syllable, a word, a sentence, a paragraph, and eventually a page. Moments when a patient recalls what his wife told him two days ago, or takes his medicine on time. Or, the moment when a patient meets her friend for lunch and safely swallows whatever she wants from the menu.
I started my company, so that I could provide therapy that is patient-driven. I believe in holistic therapy that includes all aspects of someone’s life. My focus is on what is integral for my patient and his/her family to enjoy his/her best quality of life.
